dolphin drunk

kelly  |  16 April 2008 - 7:41pm

At Discovery Cove where we swam with dolphins, alcoholic drinks are included in the entrance fee. As many as you want. Free. Looking back on it, I sorta wish I had better taken advantage of this, although at the time we were too busy doing awesome things to stop for alcohol. Did you hear what I just said? I said we were TOO BUSY TO DRINK. And that right there should convey to you just how fabulous of a time we were having.

Near the end of the day, HFD and I decided to walk over to the photo center and pick up the photos that had been taken of our dolphin swim. On the way, we stopped by the bar for a drink. This was only the second drink of the day, hours after the first. Needless to say, I was never even remotely tipsy.

After swinging by the bar, we headed to the photo center, drinks in hand. I was very excited about the photos. We'd already seen them earlier on a computer screen, but I was eager to have them in hand and admire them up close.

The employee gave them to us one at a time, showing us each photo as he handed it to us. I think this was to confirm that we'd gotten the ones we wanted, but it also had the effect of making the whole thing a bit more dramatic. For me, anyway.

"YAY!" I exclaimed as he lifted the first photo for us to see. "It's ME! With the dolphin!" And then as he lifted the next one, "Me again! YAY!!" And then the next one: "Aww look, it's [HFD] and me!" And then, "There's [HFD] with the dolphin! YAY!" I noticed the photo guy try to hide a smile, and thought to myself how completely thrilled he must be to spread the dolphin joy, one photo at a time.

Then, as we walked away, photos tucked under my arm and a spring in my step, I glanced down at the drink sloshing in the cup I was clutching and realized how I must have appeared to him. "He totally thought I was drunk, didn't he?"

"Most likely."

Of course, it's probably less lame for him to think I was drunk than to know the truth, that my extreme ebullience was solely due to dolphin-related delirium.
