I have a Stuff Portrait Day post, all written and ready to go. Really. But I feel compelled to write something different today, so check back tomorrow for the stuff.

Right now in my real life, friendship is more complicated than it should have to be. But even while I'm mourning that fact, you guys are totally representing. Thank you for that. Thank you for the breezy friendships and the more deeply-rooted ones, for caring about me even though we've never met or met only once. Thank you for sharing secrets with me via email and entrusting me with your real names. (That sounds silly, but in blogworld it is a significant statement of trust.)

It is a joy to swap funny stories, good news, and sorrows with you all, both via our blogs and our email exchanges. Thanks for proving to me that there are REAL PEOPLE on the other side of those aliases. Thank you for going out of your way to show me kindness and for offering me such easy, natural friendships. Thank you for lifting me up on many a bad day even though you didn't know I was having one.

I never expected to meet so many people because of this blog, and I really never expected to meet so many people I'd actually LIKE. But you guys are fucking amazing, each in your own way, and I thank you for that.

And I'm here to tell you, there ain't nothin' like the crushing hug of the blogworld.
