been reading: Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris
This is a collection of stories by David Sedaris, including "SantaLand Diaries" which is one of my favorite holiday tales. Irreverent and hilarious, David Sedaris always makes me laugh, and his take on the holidays is no exception. After yet another family Christmas event, Rob and I will come home and read one of the stories together, which provides a much-needed antidote. Especially after the dinner a few days ago during which someone declared that it is up to Rob to have a son to carry on the family name. And, gosh, don't we feel the pressure? No, but thank you for asking. And Merry fucking Christmas.

I love David Sedaris but I never buy his books. For some reason he is the type of author whose books just show up, whether it s gift, or someone just happens to have just finished it the same day you drop by for a visit and they let you take it.
I believe SantaLand Diaries is my most favourite Sedaris tale. No matter how many times I've read it I still laugh out loud through it all. Perfect antidote to Christmas Fuckupedness.
Ha, I devoured "Dress your family in corduroy and denim" in two sittings over the holidays. I have Holidays on Ice sitting there waiting to be read. Sedaris is definitely a good antidote to the traditional family-dom that beats us all over the head at Christmas.
We saw a performance of the Santaland Diaries at the Blackfriar's Playhouse a few years ago. It was hilarious. You and Rob should go see it next year!
geeky, we went a couple years ago, too. At the time I said we needed to make it an annual tradition, although we haven't kept that up. It was great, though.
