on top of the world

Rob and I got engaged at the top of a mountain. Several years later, an inn was built at the foot of that mountain, and that's where we went this past weekend to celebrate our 6-year wedding anniversary (a week early).
Saturday evening we took a picnic to a nearby winery that had live music. There were couples and families all around us, and we spent much of the evening people-watching, trying to figure out which kids, all of whom were running around like crazy, belonged to which adults. This proved nearly impossible to determine, so then we tried to match dogs to owners. Which was even more impossible, given the friendly nature of dogs and the inclination people have to show affection to any dog that wanders over. We finally concluded that everyone there but us belonged to a commune.
It was a delightful way to while away the evening, sitting side-by-side on our blanket, sipping wine. I feel very fortunate to have married someone with whom I can have so much fun doing nothing.
We also took several walks and hikes, including the hike up to the overlook where we got engaged 7 years ago.

It's a tough hike; the sign at the beginning declares the trail "for the stout-hearted." We whined a bit about how we're not as young as we used to be, but we made it. Seems this many years later, our hearts are still stout. And still in beat with one another.

The evening at the winery sounds really great. Happy anniversary, you crazy kids!
You are way too cute. Happy Anniversary, and here's to many more.
What a great picture of you two. Happy Anniversary!!
Happy Anniversary! What a great way to spend it.
You guys are the cutest. Happy anniversary!
I wonder if the inhabitants of my old apartment will let me and SpyDad in to relive the event of him proposing to me in my kitchen. Nah, doesn't sound as romantic as the first time.
Happy anniversary!
I think Rob looks younger now than he did in 01. Maybe it's the hair. The greening of the plains. Or photoshop!
Awwww you guys are so cute. And speaking of cute, how do you manage to look so cute after you've hiked to the top of a mountain? You don't even look like you broke a sweat!
What a great way to spend time together. And if you were at a winery and there were kids, it would be pretty difficult to determine who they belonged to; all the adults were trying to pretend they were child-less. Trust me on this one.
srsly, you sitting on the edge of that cliff made my hands sweat and my heart beat faster. be careful!
Happy Anniversary!
From everyone's comments, I take it that the second picture isn't supposed to be cropped to show just you? That is what I see when I look at it with Firefox on a mac.
yeah, danielle, i just see kelly and a very small part of rob using IE 7.0. with IE 6.0, i see both of them/the whole photo, but it goes across the "navigation"/"recent blog posts" area. ahhh, microsoft!!! ain't it grand. :(
Happy anniversary!!! You guys are adorable!!!!
I went back and read your engagement story, and it cracked me up. My boyfriend and I recently went to casually look at rings so that I could nonchalantly point out what sorts of things I liked and didn't like. HA! By the end of the shopping trip, he knew EXACTLY what I wanted. And when we got home, I even found the ring online and printed out photos to give to him. Being controlling rocks!
Oh, and I too had a horrific nightmare about him proposing with the world's ugliest ring!!! The nighmare ring had a plastic heart that covered the real diamond, and you had to slide it apart to be able to see the diamond. I think I woke up crying.
Thanks, everyone!
(Danielle, I don't have that problem with Firefox on a Mac. Try making your browser window larger, perhaps....)
