elefante

Hi, we're back! And here's an elephant, made of towels! (Can you see it? It's hard to get the full effect in a photo.) Of all the amazing things we saw and of the 1,750 photos we took, this is what I'm sharing first. Mostly because we haven't even transferred all the photos from the camera yet. But also because this elephant? Fucking rocks.

Every night on the cruise they do turndown service and leave a little chocolate on your pillow. And some nights they also fold towels into an animal and leave it on the bed. We would return to the room after dinner and there's a swan! Or a bunny! Or this freaking awesome elephant. Made of towels. So much love did I have for this elephant that I made Rob take pictures of me with it and then I placed it in the middle of our coffee table where it stayed the remainder of the cruise.

Imagine my delight when a workshop was offered on how to fold towels into animals. Doreen and I were so there, because who doesn't want to know how to do that?! And so now we can fold our own elephants! Doreen has already promised to leave one on the bed the next time we stay with them.

Yay! You're back!

Towel animals? That's akin to toilet paper origami, no?

I like that they made the elephant's legs thicker near the end with another layer. The level of detail is so cute.

Trying not to hate.

I've never been on a cruise, but after working all day, I do sort of smell like an elephant. Damn, my life sucks.

Did you name him Harry? (Harry Elefante, that is) I hope that you had an amazing time! I'm really looking forward to seeing the photos and hearing about your adventures. I'm also curious as to how the food compared to what we consider Greek food back here in the states. Welcome home!

That elephant is so...so...Questo!

Love. Hugs.

I'm so jealous! I have a picture with a towel rabbit and aspire to fold them as well one day.

Welcome back. Can't wait for some stories!

Hello? Does this work?

geeky  |  6 May 2008 - 8:59am

Sorry about that. Your site was thinking I was spam again!

What I really wanted to say is that I've always thought towel animals were AWESOME, and I'm a little jealous that you know how to make them now. Can't wait to hear about the rest of your trip and see more photos!

PS. That dress looks great on you!

AWEsome! I love the towel elephant. I can completely see why you would save it. It is like the fancy cookies or spun sugar designs that you can't bear to eat because they are so pretty.

And that you now know how to fold them yourself = wonderful!

Looking forward to seeing cruise pics.

Good to have you back! We all missed you!

I'm glad you learned how to fold an elephant. For once, when there's an elephant in the room, everyone WILL want to talk about it.

Also - that elephant holder? Smokin'.

A workshop on towel animals, now that is pretty cool. Can't wait to see pictures and hear all about it! Glad you're home safe.

welcome home! you look wonderful in this picture, you beautiful woman!

since i'll never be able to cruise, due to my irrational fear of cruise ships and my great disdain for being around other people while on vacation, my mom always makes me towel animals and leaves them on my bed at her house to make up for the loss. i love it.

i'm glad you all had a fabulous time! can't wait to see all your pictures!

von Krankipantzen  |  10 May 2008 - 3:26pm

Sounds like a great trip. And I hope you post a video on how to make towel animals. That is a skill I totally need.

Mainline Mom  |  12 May 2008 - 9:40pm

Ooh! I'm with Kranki, I want to see a how-to video!!
