pretty sure I'm their good luck charm

kelly  |  16 January 2008 - 12:00am

So I'm a Giants fan now. Right after I decided to start following football, JLD and HFD invited us over to watch a game. It was Redskins vs. Giants, and I chose to cheer for the Giants because 1) I select sports teams based on cities, and New York is my favorite and 2) I find the name 'Redskin' offensive, frankly, and 'Giant' is much cooler anyway because it's from folklore and stuff.

Then for Christmas my brother gave me a Giants jersey. He doesn't like that team, but he apparently finds the idea of me as a football fan hilarious (which it is) and wants to encourage it, if for no other reason than his own amusement. So I'm officially a Giant now. And the fact that they could end up at the Super Bowl has me sincerely excited about this sport, which is completely odd and unexpected, much like if John Kerry were to confess to watching NASCAR.

Ha! I love it. I did the same thing this year. Got roped into going to some football games and then our team won the championship. Being they hadn't won in 18 years, I think it is all about me. I'm glad you are having a good time watching and I hope your team kicks butt!!

Nothing sexier than a woman in a football jersey...Giants or not..I'm sure it is hot.

What #

GO Giants.

This reminds me of how when the Red Sox were getting close to entering and then winning their first world series in forever and ever, everyone got really superstitious about what hat they were wearing and what shirt they were wearing (and on and on). Because they were convinced that if they didn't wear their lucky hat/shirt/etc. that the Sox would lose.

It was quite interesting to see and hear.

Um...heh heh (nervous laughter)...Kelly, darling, you do realize that the Giants are playing the Packers this weekend, right? Since you're just a little bit of a Giants fan and I'm a Packers fan, could you please, maybe, just this one time, only pretend you're a Giants fan, but really, actually, you're rooting for the Packers? Consider this my early birthday present! ;-)

Were you wearing your jersey last weekend? I was all decked out in #4, green and gold. Can't wait for Sunday--GO PACK!!

geeky  |  16 January 2008 - 11:51am

Not the Giants! *groan* I mean, I guess it could be worse, but only if you had decided to be a Cowboys fan.

My team (Eagles) didn't even make the playoffs this year, but I'll be rooting for Favre and the Pack all the way, even though Favre pronounces his own last name wrong.

My Dad was born and raised in New England, so I am by default a Pats fan. My Dad stuck with them through the rough years too. Even if the Giants make it to the Superbowl, it may be disappointing for you. :) (Joking.)

It's great when women are into professional sports and then their team beats their partner's team. My sister married an Eagles/Yankees fan. The football/baseball finals in recent years have been rough on their marriage!

Have fun watching the game! It's a great excuse to drink beer and eat chips (if you're into that part of football too).

kelly  |  16 January 2008 - 7:35pm

MayB, that is awesome! And for sure it was completely thanks to you. :)

It's #21, William - Tiki's number. I only wish I'd followed the team when he played for them. He's pretty hot.

Indeed, Danielle, superstition in sports is always entertaining. Unless it involves somebody's jock strap, and then it's just gross. Wash that thing already!

Yeah, doreen, I thought of that. In fact, I've been worrying about how our friendship will be affected when we kick your ass on Sunday.

The fact that they beat Dallas makes me love them even more, geeky. I may not have followed football until this fall, but even I know enough to hate the Cowboys. (And my friends have always made fun of me because I pronounce Favre wrong. Or, in my opinion, correctly.)

Oh, I'm definitely into any excuse to drink beer and pig out, Jenski! That's usually the only reason I watch the Super Bowl. :)

HFD  |  16 January 2008 - 9:39pm

Fletcher is going to be so disappointed!

kelly  |  16 January 2008 - 9:44pm

Ha! But Fletcher will always be my man.

Nils  |  17 January 2008 - 10:50am

As I'm sure you already know, the Giants' success this coming weekend is predicated on Eli Manning's ability to read and react to the alignment and stunting of the Packers' front seven. I think we can both agree that quick outs, mid-range crossing patterns and the occasional trap inside the tackles using Jacobs can be an effective counter to the pressure.

Also: pretty blue uniforms!

kelly  |  17 January 2008 - 2:27pm

Nils, I actually like Seattle's uniforms much better....but obviously that would be a stupid reason to choose a team.
