more stuff I swear by

kelly  |  11 October 2007 - 5:28pm

You can see my last list here.

iCurve laptop stand.
Rob bought me this last year because I was complaining all the time about pain in my shoulders and tension in my upper back. I knew it was from hunching over my laptop at work all day, but I couldn't sit up straight because my laptop was too low. As soon as I started using this stand, I was all better. It elevates the laptop to eye level. This particular model is nice aesthetically, too - clear plastic, clean lines (or, rather, curves), and a simple design. I'm not sure if this one is still being made, but I've seen similar ones out there.

C.O. Bigelow lemon hand wash.
I keep this by the kitchen sink. And I love it so much that I will go out of my way to wash my hands in the kitchen. I'm not kidding. After using the bathroom, I'll go to the kitchen to wash my hands - just so I can smell this soap. (It occurs to me that I should just buy a bottle for every sink in the house.) You can buy it at Bath and Body Works. But beware: You will find yourself constantly sniffing your hands. Which is weird. But, with this soap, totally understandable.

Cat litter deodorizer.
I actually like this for its absorbent ability more than its deodorizing property. A good layer on the bottom of the litter box keeps those wet clumps from sticking to the box. (I really hate scraping those off.)

Burt's Bees Lip Shimmer.
I got hooked on this stuff when I asked to borrow some chapstick from Rob's sister. It has all the usual good Burt's Bees stuff - all-natural, not too sticky or waxy, peppermint tingle - but with some sheer color added. This stuff has completely replaced my lipstick because it's less expensive and more moisturizing, but looks just as good. I recently ran out and searched the city upside-down looking for more. No one had my shade! When I finally found it (at Cracker Barrel of all places), I bought four tubes.

Delivery confirmation.
Makes you look smart - omniscient, even. And there is tracking involved. Need I say more?

What stuff do you swear by?

I use that same cat litter deodorizer, but I never thought to put it in the bottom. I hate scraping out those clumps too! Good tip. :)

My latest thing is John Frieda Frizz-Ease Thermal Protection Serum. Because I get paranoid that I'm doing permanent damage when I heat style my hair every day, and this stuff really seems to make a difference.

RzDrms  |  11 October 2007 - 11:05pm

y'all don't line your litterboxes with cat pan liners?! holy canoly, i think i'd vomit a little in my mouth if i had to scrap the pee-pee off of the bottom of the pan each time. eeewww! i use the "extra giant" (not pictured) because my spoiled cat has the luxury-condo litterbox.

and secondly, my colleague and i were JUST talking about burt's bees today at work...shampoo, hand lotion...and i'd forgotten about it, and then i come here and you remind me...annnnnd i just spent almost eighty bucks on their website. yesyesthanksabunch! ::sigh::

RzDrms  |  11 October 2007 - 11:08pm

oh, and doreen commented on your last post that the tagline for this week was so appropriate...does that mean you're going to australia or something?! no tellin' with you world travelers!!! :)

William  |  12 October 2007 - 8:46am

I swear by KLOG. It always brightens my day.

I also swear by Vodka.

And Hi RZ

Danielle  |  12 October 2007 - 9:03am

Our Target AND our grocery store carry the Burt's Bees line, which I really like.

I tried that lip shimmer, but you know what I discovered? I put on chapstick way too messily to use it as a substitute for lipstick. I end up getting it smeared all over the skin around my lips too.

I guess I could use a mirror, but I do it at odd times - like while walking somewhere - and shhhhhh! don't tell - while I'm waiting for something to happen in the lab (a big no, no is to put on lip gloss in the lab). ;-)

doreen  |  12 October 2007 - 9:23am

RzDrms: I was referring to this crazy kangaroo on an Australian racetrack earlier this week:

But visiting Australia seems nice, too. Work hasn't taken me there, yet...!

jana  |  12 October 2007 - 2:34pm

i swear by Spray and wash with oxyclean.

And chocolate. Chocolate is always good.

kelly  |  12 October 2007 - 6:43pm

I have such guilt about doing permanent damage to my hair, Ern. In fact, I often skip styling it because of that. Well okay, maybe it's because I'm lazy, but the damage thing makes for a good excuse. I'll definitely have to try the serum. Thanks!

Rz, I tried the liners once but my cats tore it all up with their claws when they scratched. When I lifted out the liner, litter fell through the holes. Also, I'm glad you asked Doreen what she was talking about with that kangaroo comment....because I also had no clue, and hadn't gotten around to emailing her to ask. :)

Aww, William, you're the best.

Our Target has it, Danielle AND I just noticed Burt's Bees at the new swanky grocery store! But they didn't have the lip shimmer stuff. I don't think I put it on messily, but I'm not sure I've ever really checked. Oh dear.

Smooches to you, doreen. ;)

Ooh, I use the Spray and Wash too, jana! And also the chocolate. Lots of chocolate.

mrtl  |  13 October 2007 - 2:47am

hey - that's my lip stuff. champagne or rhubarb, depending on my mood.

i swear by chocolate. and now that i've found one, i swear by friends who call and say, "i have pie."

dawn  |  14 October 2007 - 1:41pm

Bacon. I swear by bacon. I love that you can see the full slices of bacon through the package and choose the 'good' kind with more bacon and less fat. I love turkey bacon. I just love bacon. Very crispy, any time, any place. Plain, on a sandwich, with eggs, dipped in syrup with pancakes.

Damn, now I NEED some bacon!

dawn  |  14 October 2007 - 1:43pm

I'm going to try the burt's bee's stuff. It looks promising. Being in the North, I need moisturized lips!

Von Krankipantzen  |  17 October 2007 - 2:06pm

I swear by Cetaphil skin cleanser. I have friends who pay big bucks for fancy face products and I still have the best skin (and totally wrinkle free at 38-no crows feet at all!) of everybody. They just cannot believe that it works so well and won't stoop to switching to a drugstore product. It really does wonders! I'm laughing all the way to old age AND the bank.

kelly  |  17 October 2007 - 9:09pm

My shade is cocoa, mrtl. Although I first bought rhubarb, but it did not look hot on me.

I'm with you on the bacon, dawn.

So that's your secret, Kranki! You do have great skin. I will have to check out this Cetaphil for myself.

RzDrms  |  17 October 2007 - 11:02pm

well, hellooo there william, you cutie-patootie! (it must be the dish-washing detergent you've been using that has me so smitten!) :) long time, no chat!

kalkster, i just got my package in today of my 11 burt's bees' products (three shampoos, three conditioners - i'd been looking for natural ones - two lip shimmers, a deep hair conditioner thingie, a nighttime cream...and a free gift package!). i had no idea the lip shimmers were so small! i got the watermelon and the fig. they're tinnnngly! :) can't wait to try the shampoo and conditioner tomorrow. thanks for the recommendation! :)

i still swear by morningstar, which i think i said on your last list but can't remember. i also love me my fuzzy socks (some examples here)! there's so much more, but i've hogged your comments here long enough. ::hugs::

(by the way, you must tell us about your trip to chicago - don't think i missed that comment!)

kelly  |  18 October 2007 - 7:14pm

Yay, Rz, I hope you like your Burt's Bees! And I also love the fuzzy socks. :)
