on my way

kelly  |  4 January 2007 - 11:57am

Yesterday I marked something off my life list. I got to ride a Segway! I was completely tense and white-knuckled for the first 30 seconds, and then suddenly it was second nature. I was whipping around corners and smiling like a fool. Totally awesome.

A few other things on my life list...

  • fly first class
  • live in a city
  • be in the same room as John Stamos
  • visit Italy & Greece
  • be a Nielsen household
  • have something published
  • swim with dolphins
  • ride a camel
  • own a pair of Manolo Blahniks
  • front row seat to Broadway show
  • celebrate 50th wedding anniversary
  • attend taping of a sitcom

What's on your list?

  • lists
  • 732 reads

LadyBug  |  4 January 2007 - 12:04pm

Photos? Where are the photos of you on the Segway??

I don't have a life list. I have kids instead. But congrats on fulfilling one of your goals!

Susie  |  4 January 2007 - 12:18pm

I don't have a life list. I think I will make one. One of your items reminds me of what I've been meaning to tell you for ages. I LOVE to read memoirs, and I read this one that is a collection of stories, not unlike blog entries:
http://www.amazon.com/why-Im-like-this-Stories/dp/006051261X

And every time I pick it up, I have the same thought, "Kelly writes SO much better than this." Something about it reminds me of you, but you're way better, no lie. You will publish if you want to. And I will read :)
Now I have to go find out WTF a Segway is...

The Kept Woman  |  4 January 2007 - 2:47pm

I'm still jealous about the riding a camel thing.

Sugar Daddy and I once kept a list like this but it was smaller things too like "Ride motorcycle to Lake Geneva in fall" (we had a motorcycle so it wasn't such a big deal) or "Look into our baby's eyes for the first time"...once we had kids this list got lost...I think it's in the basement somewhere...I should probably find that...

William  |  4 January 2007 - 4:11pm

I think what you need to do is write book about swimming with Dolphins in Italy which you would have to Fly First class to for research. It will get published and picked up by a TV company who wants to make it into a sitcom, Starring John Stamos. You will have to attend all the tapings of the show in LA so you will get an apartment there and live in that City. John Stamos will be so happy that he working again that he will send you and Rob to his homeland in Greece (he is greek Right?) for your 50th wedding anniversary.

I have no idea what Barry manalo Blahniks are.

whfropera  |  4 January 2007 - 5:20pm

William - She will wear them (the MBs) while attending the tapings, so at the end of them, when everyone takes their bows, she will get to stand next to John Stamos in said MB's.

I recommend these

SG  |  4 January 2007 - 8:28pm

* learn how to decorate cakes (CHECK)
* learn how to knit (CHECK)
* run a marathon
* become fluent in a foreign language
* become a vegetarian
* adopt a pregnant cat and keep the entire litter (and the mama cat)

shannon  |  4 January 2007 - 10:40pm

Three of these I can scratch off already, but the one I want to put on my list is:
* celebrate 50th wedding anniversary
Yes, this is a good one.

Von Krankipantzen  |  4 January 2007 - 10:51pm

Hey! That is pretty cool. You are well on your way to completing your list. I would love to fly first class too. You've inspired me. I'm going to make a list for myself.

John Stamos  |  4 January 2007 - 11:16pm

Things to do before I die:

5. Just once more see my name in Tiger Beat
4. Have the restraining order from Mary-Kate and Ashleigh rescinded
3. Be on the set of a sitcom - and actually make a contribution
2. Come out

and the Number One thing I want to do before I die:

1. Kelly. What the hell, if Rebecca can fake it for years, Kelly can handle four minutes of heaven.

kelly  |  5 January 2007 - 12:37am

It was a spur of the moment thing, LadyBug, and at work no less, so I didn't have a camera with me! Funny though, that's the first thing Rob asked, too. After recovering from his jealousy.

Thanks for your support, Susie. I tend to doubt myself, so hearing that sort of thing from you inspires me to be braver.

TKW, I thought of another thing that was on my life list that I've already accomplished. Being a Nielsen household! We can both mark that one off our list, because we're Nielsen's bitches! And proud of it.

William, that was incredible. You tied it all together! Into, like, a reasonably sensible storyline! That is serious talent, dude. And your last line made me laugh. :)

Hi whfropera! I think standing next to JS in MBs might be my idea of heaven. And thanks for the link - 52% off! Still way beyond my budget, but still. It sounds good.

Ooh, those are good, SG. I thought about including the foreign language one, but I decided it was too much effort. Same for the marathon. My life list is totally lazy...

Welcome, shannon! That's my favorite one. It's a noble goal, indeed. All the best to you!

Yeah, this is one to-do list that's actually fun to make, Kranki. And work towards. :)

John Stamos, I'd travel four days for those four minutes. In fact, I'm on my way...I'll be the girl riding a Segway in Manolos.

kristen  |  5 January 2007 - 7:07am

ok, no fair on the seque! ever since arrested development and GOB, I've been obsessed with seques and you rode one, pfft.

kristen  |  5 January 2007 - 7:07am

First on my list: learn to spell words properly, especially when the correct spelling is RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU.

UCM  |  5 January 2007 - 12:17pm

Wait, why are the dolphins not crossed off? Oh, now I remember. It was cancelled, so you took a pic of the dolphin statue.

Why no first class to Dubai? I got to ride in first class one time when my flight to Chicago was delayed and I was about 4 months pregnant. I marched up to the ticket counter bawling, and asked for an upgrade. She gave it to me right away. See, pregnancy has its perks.

I'm pretty easy going, and I don't tend to dream outside my safe little reality. Sometimes I dream of a vacation to Italy or Ireland, or even a cruise. I could deal with a cruise. Just leave the Tom freak out of it.

Amy  |  5 January 2007 - 1:05pm

Here's a few of me things,
*write a movie
*be the lead in a play (I only wrote that because I actually WILL be the lead in a play in March of this year, woo hoo!)
*have grandchildren
*own a designer pant suit (sounds kind of hokey on paper, I guess)
*hang glide (if that's what it's called)

Di  |  5 January 2007 - 4:05pm

Oooo... I made one of these list forever ago. I'll have to see if I can find it.

I did fly first-class once. The airline bumped me up there so I could get off the plane first and not miss my connecting flight. It was awesome, but I was only 17 and I don't think I truly appreciated it at the time.

Jana  |  5 January 2007 - 6:05pm

I'm such a procrastinator that I actually went and BOUGHT a book one time titled "101 things to Do Before you Die".

Of course I lost it.

I definitely want to see a pic of Kalki & the Segway.

Right now the only list I have is the list of things to do to get the baby to stop crying!!!! :)

I love your list though, and it has inspired me to write my own.

nicole  |  7 January 2007 - 10:45am

Happy belated New Year Kalki & Rob!!!

Hope its a good one- sounds like its off to a good start! (Where did you ride a segway? Details plese!!!)

"Life Lists" are too much pressure for me, but every year, I write out a list of goals & dreams. It includes places I want to travel, things I want to accomplish, and dreams for myself and my family.

On my list this year:
Be happy.
Travel to Mexico.
Throw a big surprise party for B's graduation.
Become a mom.
Learn to cook.
Finally have my own home.

kelly  |  7 January 2007 - 10:23pm

kristen, in some cities I've seen Segway tours. I'm sure there are some in New York. That's your ticket!

Thank you, UCM, for rubbing in the dolphin thing. Dammit. :P And first class to Dubai would have cost twice as much, and that flight was already way too expensive. As for your life list, creating a photo studio and doing photograpy jobs totally count - you're braver than you give yourself credit for.

Yay, Amy, you're gonna be the lead in a play! That's awesome. I like your others, too. Rob would totally hang glide with you.

That's the best, Di - first class for free! I aspire to that.

"Of course I lost it." - LOL, Jana! And I wish I'd had a camera with me! Next time...

I think that's a great list, nicole. I hope they all come true for you.
